Photoshop is software program developed by Adobe that allows you to edit graphics. It can be used to enhance and manipulate images to improve their overall appearance. The features of this tool that you will learn here are:

Using the Liquify Tool
Here we are going to learn body sculpting with liquify tool. The image below is what we are looking to edit.

Next step is to create a duplicate layer.

Now go to Filter -> Liquify. This window appears –

Push from edge, not the center, to manipulate sections of the image. In this image, we are trying to adjust her shirt since the wind is blowing it out.

Go to Image-> Adjustments -> Match Color

Blending Images with Gradient Layer Mask

When you add a layer mask, you are: Blending layers and controlling where you see various parts of the layer.

White = reveal all; black = hide portion of that layer or effect.

In this case we are painting in black to reveal the layer underneath.

With the brush tool, we can begin to reveal sections underneath the top layer – change the opacity for varying effects

You can toggle between painting with black and white with X key.

HDR Filter
HDR Filters are used to give pictures an exaggerated look. You can blend multiple images that have been exposed differently. It also gives pictures an exaggerated, artistic or stylized look. Steps to use HDR Filters:

Open image in Photoshop (Be sure to flatten it first – i.e merge all layers) -> Layer -> Flatten image.
Image -> Adjustments -> HDR Toning: Adjust sliders to give it various effects

Content Aware
Removes people or objects from a picture easily. Content Aware works similar to cloning tool.
Select the object in the picture you want to remove (use “quick select tool”)
Edit -> Fill -> a window opens
Under Contents in the drop down menu select -> Content-Aware – Click OK

**Tip: you can create duplicate layers of images to experiment with various effects by using CTRL or CMD J.


To quickly adjust levels such as exposure or brightness and contrast – this creates an adjustment layer in photoshop. Steps to do that:

1. Open your image in Photoshop — Open your layers panel (Window -> Layers)
2. Look for the small circle icon at the bottom of the layers panel (it is a circle that looks like ying/yang- black and white). Press on this icon -> Select Levels
3. Use the slider on the graph that opens up to adjust your levels to appropriate exposure settings.
